New Themes & Other Stuff

Matt and I both have some new themes up our sleeves. Also, I’ve been trying to work on the first of a series of WordPress.com exclusive themes (make you guys feel special and all). But thanks to designer’s block, it’s been put off for a little bit. I do promise that they’re on their way! Then you can brag to your WP.org counterparts that you have themes that they can’t get. ;D

Oh, and if you ever run into this blog being marked as private - more than likely I’m doing some development work.

Chaotic Soul Fixes

Well, thanks for the comments and support everybody! I’ve taken (most) of the comments on the WP.com entry of the same name and made a few fixes! Some of them were no-brainers, but seemed to pass by me really easily. It’s my absent mindedness, I swear. Anyway, hopefully I can find a rightful place for say, a horizontal navigation while not offending the memory of this old design.

Stuck in a Rut

A lot of things are popping up and trying to fight for the title “the hardest thing I’ve ever done.” Today’s champion is none other than Avalonstar itself. I’ll be frank, trying to top what I’ve done in May and in July before that is proving to be the hardest thing I’ve ever done. No, I mean I’m not in a total rut, just a rut with Avalonstar. Everything’s in place, everything’s ready to go - new features, new ideas, new everything - but the design isn’t getting done.

I’ve gone through about 10 concepts and god knows how many ideas that never made it from the shower to the computer. Every one follows the exact wireframe I want, but I never like them. Am I trying too hard? Should I pull an Inman or a Bowman and go really simple? Is all this programming I’m learning starting to ruin who I am as a designer? I don’t know, but it’s scaring me. It’s a different situation than I’ve faced before. Frankly, I’d rather be in a rut than constantly coming up with ideas that either never make it, or never satisfy me.

Well, one can only hope for the best. :)

Theme Notoriety

ChaoticSoul finally makes it to the big time. But you probably already knew that.

It’s a good feeling to know that one of your old designs will never die, and that it’s respected by more now than it was when it was the face of Avalonstar in 2003. But to think I would have never created the WordPress theme if it wasn’t for the screw-ups of the Wayback Machine. Maybe this won’t be the last Avalonstar I convert into a theme, but as long as people don’t get pushy, I don’t mind.

It’s Time…

My presentation is today… I just hope I don’t screw up. I couldn’t sleep because I was thinking about it so much. Just calm down Bryan, you’ll get through it. o_o;

A Post With a Long Name

Yeah, now you get why it’s “Raw and Scrambled” … either that or I’m fixing something.

One More Day

One more day to go and we’ll be fully moved in. We got off our asses to do a lot of cleaning and about 3 trips of moving stuff. It’s surprising just how much you can pack in my RX-8. Anyway, hopefully we can turn in the keys on Monday without any hassle. Otherwise… yeah.

In the Meantime…

Well, when I haven’t been working, I’ve been gaming once again. Soon to come is a game server, woohoo. If you know me well enough, you’ll know which game. Otherwise, stay tuned to Avalonstar.

All Pink and Stuff

It’s been a while since I’ve gotten some sun, and needless to say - I think I got more than enough today. It’s about 73 degrees in the house right now and I’m feeling pretty warm to say the least. Skin’s pink, and I KNOW it’s going to peel. God damn, two things I don’t like about the beach - the sunburn and the sand (like getting into your shoes and stuff).

On the other hand, I have to say that I did get smacked by some pretty large waves today. I guess that’s what I feel like I’ve been beaten up by a flurry of Russian wrestlers.

The Hotness

This could change over time, but the fact that they have a hot-or-not site for web design is a little odd. Nevertheless at the time of this entry, Avalonstar is 4th on the hot list. I love people. :)
